Privacy

This page covers two things: the website gettranscriber.com and the Transcriber app for macOS. Both are made by Moritz Krause, 55 chemin des Bios, 74400 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France (contact details in the legal notice), who is the controller in the sense of the GDPR. A German version follows below.

The website

The website is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, has no login and no forms. There is nothing here that identifies you across visits.

Hosting. The pages are served by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., San Francisco, USA, through its EU entity Cloudflare Germany GmbH). Like every web server, Cloudflare's edge receives your IP address, the page you request, your browser's user agent and the time of the request, and keeps that in server logs for a short period to run and protect the service. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in operating a secure, fast website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare's own privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Fonts. The pages load the Inter typeface from Google Fonts. Your browser therefore sends a request, including your IP address, to Google (Google Ireland Limited). If you'd rather avoid that, a content blocker that blocks fonts.googleapis.com breaks nothing on this site.

Download. The download button forwards you to GitHub (GitHub, Inc., USA), where the app's releases are stored. From that moment GitHub's privacy policy applies: docs.github.com/privacy.

Links. Links to other sites, including the blog's references, are ordinary links. Nothing is loaded from those sites until you click.

The app

Transcriber runs on your Mac and processes audio there.

• Audio and transcripts are stored in a folder on your Mac that you choose. They are never uploaded by the app.
• The app makes exactly two kinds of network requests: the one-time download of the speech recognition models on first use, and a check for new versions against the public GitHub API, once a day by default. Neither request carries audio, text, or an identifier beyond what any HTTP request contains. Both can be seen in the app's log file.
• There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting and no telemetry.
• The optional hand-off to an AI tool (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or an app you choose) only happens when you press that button. From then on the transcript is subject to that service's terms. If you don't configure a tool, nothing leaves the Mac.

Recording a conversation may require the consent of everyone in it. That obligation is yours as the person recording, and the app cannot fulfil it for you.

Your rights

Since neither the website nor the app collects personal data beyond Cloudflare's short-lived server logs, there is little to access, correct or delete. You still have the rights under Art. 15 to 21 GDPR and the right to complain to a supervisory authority, in France the CNIL. Write to [email protected] for anything related to this policy.

Website. gettranscriber.com besteht aus statischen Seiten ohne Cookies, ohne Analyse-Tools, ohne Login und ohne Formulare. Beim Aufruf verarbeitet der Hosting-Anbieter Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA, in der EU vertreten durch Cloudflare Germany GmbH) technisch notwendig Ihre IP-Adresse, die aufgerufene Seite, den Browser-Typ und den Zeitpunkt des Zugriffs und speichert diese Daten kurzzeitig in Server-Logs zum Betrieb und Schutz des Dienstes. Schriftarten. Die Seiten laden die Schrift Inter von Google Fonts (Google Ireland Limited). Dabei wird Ihre IP-Adresse an Google übermittelt. Wer das nicht möchte, kann fonts.googleapis.com blockieren; die Seite funktioniert dann ohne Einschränkung.

Download. Der Download-Button leitet zu GitHub (GitHub, Inc., USA) weiter, wo die App bereitgestellt wird. Dort gilt die Datenschutzerklärung von GitHub.

App. Transcriber verarbeitet Audio ausschließlich auf Ihrem Mac. Aufnahmen und Transkripte liegen in einem von Ihnen gewählten Ordner und werden von der App nicht hochgeladen. Die App stellt genau zwei Arten von Netzwerkverbindungen her: den einmaligen Download der Spracherkennungsmodelle bei der ersten Nutzung und eine tägliche Prüfung auf neue Versionen über die öffentliche GitHub-API. Beide übertragen weder Audio noch Text noch eine Kennung. Es gibt kein Konto, keine Analyse, keine Absturzberichte, keine Telemetrie. Die optionale Übergabe eines Transkripts an ein KI-Werkzeug erfolgt nur auf Ihren Knopfdruck und unterliegt ab dann den Bedingungen des jeweiligen Anbieters.

Das Aufzeichnen von Gesprächen kann die Einwilligung aller Beteiligten erfordern (§ 201 StGB). Diese Pflicht liegt bei der aufzeichnenden Person.

Ihre Rechte. Sie haben die Rechte aus Art. 15 bis 21 DSGVO (Auskunft, Berichtigung, Löschung, Einschränkung, Datenübertragbarkeit, Widerspruch) sowie das Recht auf Beschwerde bei einer Aufsichtsbehörde. Anfragen an [email protected].
